Life of Service

I am teaching a Bible study on Leadership. I was struck again by the powerful lesson from Jesus picking up the towel and washing the disciples' feet.

John 13:3-5 (New International Version)

3Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; 4so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. 5After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

One of the thoughts that I bring from this is that Jesus knew Himself. He did not have to do anything to prove who he was. With this positive self image he could take the lowliest job and be content.

He saw the need for the guys to have clean feet after walking in the dusty road. He determined to meet that need. He is a model for us to quit worrying what people think of us and just serve. Who cares about my rep when I know that I am loved and cared for by the God who created it all.
